AdMit pilot project

Sand dam rainwater harvesting

Activities

This project aims to enable communities in the Central South, North East, and North West zones of Somalia to adapt to increasingly frequent droughts that are partly the result of climate change. The project will deliver safe water for schools and health centres by implementing roof rainwater harvesting technologies. It will also involve the construction of latrine facilities for all. UNICEF will also pilot and demonstrate sand dam rainwater harvesting systems for two communities in the north west of Somalia. These interventions will enable schools to remain open during dry periods and drought, and will allow health centres to deliver more effective treatment to patients in more hygienic conditions.
