Researcher
Pia Treichel is a researcher and lecturer on adaptation, currently finishing a PhD on international adaptation finance. In 2013, after almost 5 years working for the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) on international climate change policy in both Bangkok and New York, Pia returned to Australia to begin working for Plan International Australia as the Program Manager Climate Change Adaptation, where her work focused mainly on the Asia-Pacific region. Prior to her work with UNDP, Pia was based in Melbourne with ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability, on the Cities for Climate Protection Program. Her current areas of focus include international climate and adaptation finance, the Green Climate Fund, climate justice, and child-centred climate change adaptation. Pia has experience in designing, implementing, and monitoring and evaluating climate change projects; climate change policy at both the international level and national level – particularly in developing countries; and knowledge management, communication and training on climate change. She has worked as a research consultant for the past four years, working with organisations such as Save the Children, Oxfam in the Pacific, and the University of Melbourne.
