Climate Adaptation Competency Framework

The implications of climate change on workforces and labour markets are still emerging with many unknowns. However, it is certain that climate change will have broad implications for employment including workforce regulations, the growth of new green jobs, and the identification of skills and labour market gaps.

The Climate Adaptation Competency Framework, developed by Adaptation Learning Network,

  • provides a defined set of competencies that helps ensure that individuals and/or teams have the necessary expertise and abilities required to perform functions that contribute to climate action;
  • is an effective approach for managing workforce development and performance monitoring in this interdisciplinary professional field of climate adaptation;
  • helps those hiring and those applying for jobs and contracts to understand what skills, behaviours and attitudes are needed to effectively perform climate adaptation work;
  • provides a basis for instructional designers, who work with subject matter experts to build courses for training and educational purposes, to identify learning outcomes for courses focused on climate-related issues, hazards, and solutions.
